North Shore Originals Defined:
The Logo -This logo pays homage to our roots and being raised in the era of Three Rivers Stadium by the Real OG’s, our parents and grandparents…who are the foundation of this blue collar steel town. We thank you for instilling in us a tradition of God, Family, and Pittsburgh Steelers Football.
North Shore Originals aka The Parking lot OG’s...Located 20 yards away from where the immaculate reception took place, we continue this tradition on what we call sacred ground. A Journey that began in the late 80’s to early 90’s for most of us. Before the store fronts, the restaurants, and the bars were even a thought…we anticipated a 5am head start downtown to nothing but open parking lots that connected to a stadium. Three Rivers Stadium…home to the 4x Super Bowl Champs.
Already sipping on some IC Light and waiting to park, the adrenaline rush came upon us… it was 6am…we were finally let into the lot. There were sights of grills and home made fires in every parking spot. You could smell charcoaled Kielbasa and Iron City while hearing the sounds of Steelers fight songs playing a loud. We tossed a football around carelessly over cars and crowds and without any “rules” that are enforced in present day.
Almost time for kickoff…some of us had tickets and some didn’t…and our options were slim. We spent the day tailgating amongst complete strangers who we would quickly embrace as our family. They invited us to stay to watch the game on an old tube tv in the bed of their truck, or we would go to the Clark Bar…the only bar on the North Shore where you could eat, drink, and hope for that W!
Football Sundays at Three Rivers Stadium was a place where we congregated as a community, a place where we gathered with friends old and new…we laughed…we drank (a lot) and we peed in buckets behind car doors, all while enjoying the camaraderie with fellow Steeler fans alike. Through these lots, a group of us met and we clicked…we had one commonality, a true bond. Every other Sunday during the season we meet in this lot, and there is no place we would rather be.
